If you can't think of a name, for example, so you don't ring up within the 6 weeks after you've had the baby to get a birth certificate and get the baby registered.....what happens? Do they name the baby for you?

Not that I'm worried about that happening, we've got a name picked out already, I'm just curious.

mil has 2 birthdays - real one and registered one cause her father wouldn't take her to be registered and the chauffeur had to take her and register her but it was too late... or something like that!

    You get fined!!

I don't know the details but I'm fairly sure there is a fine to pay after 6 weeks.

Hmm not sure but I know it's illegal not to register a baby and you can't claim Child Benefit until the baby has been registered. I've had a quick google but can't find anything about what happens if you don't register!

Okay so if you turn up to have your baby registered then, but you have no name to tell them, what happens? Do they pick one for you?

No the baby would be registered as male or female, they don't pick a name for you. That'd be awful!!

i have got a feeling our son is going to be called baby boy twyford or number three because me and oh cannot decide on a name whatsoever. i like one but he is unsure and now i have given up trying with him.

i could just take him and name him what i want though if OH stays stubborn, not like he needs be there

i have always wondered what happens too, i didnt know you could change your child;s name in the first 12 months?
