We currently get help with childcare costs through tax credits but I am shortly going to be on maternity leave, can I still claim these payments? Tried looking on the website but can't find the answer. Thanks!
I thought you could? As you can't exactly pull your child out of nursery for the duration of your maternity leave (at most places anyway!) I'd call them to double check but I am pretty certain the amount you get stays the same.
Yes you can as your still classed as employed while on maternity leave as far as I know x
Tap tap.... Excuse my spelling xx

During my last pregnancy (6years ago) I carried on receiving my child care payments from tax credits. They knew I was on maternity leave but as others have said you are still classed as employed and can't take your child out of child care and put them back when you go back to work xx

Thanks for all your replies! This is what had me confused! I am not physically in work but I am still classed as being employed. My son is staying with the nursery as I was advised this was less disruptive for him, and he might have lost his place if I took him out and put him back in after a few months as I do need to go back to work. Do I need to phone tax credits and tell them I am on maternity leave, or just wait for the renewal forms? It is going to get even more confusing with the new system!!
I would call just in case as your income will be going down won't it?
Yes you do, you are still employed. I've still been getting it for evie as she still goes nursery. I told them I was on mat leave though as if you have SMP they disregard £100 a week of your income![]()
