Thread: 3 month old still not sleeping well

3 month old still not sleeping well

    Can anyone offer advice?

    My daughter is not a great sleeper and I am not sure what I am doing wrong, her day goes like this;

    7am feed
    8 am nap until 10/10.30am
    10.30 feed
    11 - playtime
    12 - nap
    12.45 - playtime
    2.30 - feed
    3pm - nap during walk
    4pm - social time/play
    5.30pm - nap
    6.15pm - feed
    7pm - play with dad
    7.30 - bath, massage
    8.15pm - bed

But she then wakes at 9pm unsettled until her 10.15pm feed back to bed at 11 until about 3.30am for another feed, nights can be quite unsettled with her waking needing a quick pat to go back down again...

Should she be going to bed earlier and napping less? She is formula fed (we just stopped breast feeding - different, long story!)

I think that's sounds really good tbh. So feed and bed at 11 and then one feed at night and the rest of the time a pat settles her?
How often does she need patting back to sleep?

    Probably NAK excuse errors.

Yep Shes more settled than mind is in the nights I think it's normal for them to be up a couple of times a night at this age!

I think that's actually quite good. If my daughter slept like that I would be jumping up and down doing a happy clap! Lol. She never slept that well at 3 months and still doesn't now at nearly 11 months

Bex, Lewis used to be like that too but this last week seems to have gone longer at night. He was bf for 2 mths then ff, he is now 3 months. He used to wake every 3 hours before ( when ff)

Our day now goes something like this
    5.30 feed
    6-8sleep then play
    9.30- feed
10-1 mixture of play/ nap depending on what we are doing
1 feed then play/ nap as above
    4 feed then play/ nap
    6.30 feed
    8 bath/ nap
9.30 feed then bed/settle by 10 when we go too

Sometimes he wakes between 3-4am but a reassurance hand seems to be working to settle. He used to take a bottle at that time, but dropped it naturally. He does take more now during the day and I don't go buy this rule he must wait 4 hours, I think if he missing a bottle at night he must want more during day. I feed on demand so we went swimming yesterday and he was starving after so had a bottle, changed things a little as he had his last bottle at 8.30 but still did until 5.30! I wonder if dd needs to take more during the day, otherwise she will wake as she won't have enough? Iygwim.

We tried bed at 8 after bath/ feed and then he went until 12 but still woke at 5.30 and I felt worse for getting an hour sleep. Your routine sounds pretty good and like I say, Lewis just started going longer without us changing anything apart from he took more during day. I think should we put him to bed earlier but he also likes to spend time with daddy on a evening so it's working and I'm not messing with it just yet.

Oh and I dont find napping less helps him at all, he slept a lot yesterday and still had a good night. I just go with him, well the minute I put him in the car/pram/ wrap he just sleeps so to keep him awake would be impossible! I also find if he is over tired he just gets cranky and upset so doesn't help.

Oh wow, thanks ladies - the people I hang about with have babies who sleep through, all of them!

Thought we were abnormal...? Glad to hear we're not doing too badly, she generally needs a pat and shush once or twice overnight... Will shut up and be happy!

Bex, I spent ages thinking my baby would never sleep when younger ones did! My hv said, ignore them what people see as sleeping through is different. My friend told me her dd was sleeping all night at 4 weeks, turns out they didn't put her down until 12 and she slept until 5, ill add she is still like that at 16 weeks whereas Lewis now out sleeps her.
I also had, oh he'll sleep better now he is ff, well he didn't! Eventually it all clicked into place and he is doing well, I hope it will last but if not so be it. My mum was great she said you don't get 13 year olds that don't sleep haha!!

Bexy she sounds like she's doing fab! We might have bedtime as 9-6 but I can be up 10 times lol. Bet your friends babies will be nightmares as toddlers and your lo will sleep 12hrs straight

That sounds really good tbh - all those naps and just one feed in the night.

You could try cutting out the 5:30 nap and putting her to bed earlier if you wanted to change something?

She sleeps better than my 5 month old who started waking every half hour or so recently for no apparent reason other than he just fancies being awake. Sounds like both of you are doing great!
