Thread: Happy stories only!!

When I was upduffed with my first baby one thing had stuck in my mind was someone saying (I had a big bump) 'you'll have a job pushing that out, your fanny will be ripped to shreds - just like mine' *insert creepy laugh*

Those sorts of thing are very unnecessary!

I completely agree with fruitshoot in that doing your research, being positive and having an open mind are so important for getting through pregnancy and labour.

And I also agree that having a traumatic birth doesn't make you dramatic, I think its just the way you tell it that makes it appropriate at the time or not. Like you've said fruitshoot, you wouldn't share your experience unless asked. When I was 24 weeks (I think?) a woman I know told me about what happened to her at 26 weeks in a lot of detail, I nearly passed out I was so scared! There was no need to tell me at that point, she came out with it out of the blue, I hadn't asked, and if she really wanted to tell me I would have preferred if she had waited until I was a bit further on!!

I wasn't sure whether to post or not in that I ended up with an emergency section after a long, slow labour. In my view it is a happy story though. I coped with my contractions well by keeping mobile, having baths and later using G&A. At no point did I feel out of control or in agony. The c section while not what I wanted, went well and DD and I were both fine afterwards. I recovered well and can't say I was ever in dreadful pain, just a bit uncomfy if I forgot my painkillers.
I suppose I just wanted to post to say that it is possible for things to go "wrong" but for it still to be a positive experience.

Ryan was an easy pregnancy, great relatively simple water birth, and I should have considered myself grateful. . No colic or the likes.

Coral was a problematic pregnancy, caesarian due to breech and has been ill/grumpy with everything minor I can think of.

But they're both totally worth it.x

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I think when people share the horror stories, it;s more for their benefit than yours

I think it's all a lottery, but yes, it is perfectly possible to enjoy the pregnancy journey with minimal complaints and have an uncomplicated labour
Admittedly my timing was off with the last pregnancy, BUT! I really enjoy being pregnant, felt well both times and did not have a long or difficult labour.
I've always maintained that the contractions were the hardest part, but that labour was more like doing a very intensive gym class - lots of stamina and physical effort involved! But not the level of pain I was led to believe.

Very best of luck to you!

I think people should tell people to keep an open mind in case things don't go to plan but I think it is really really unfair of mums who seem to go out of their way to tell pregnant women what a horrific time they had.

I always focus on the positive (even with my induction which wasn't great I suggest how I might have coped better if I had done things differently).

Apart from back problems from having a huge baby and being a small lady I had an amazing pregnancy and homebirth with my son, I read lots of positive birth stories to prepare myself for labour (he was my second) check amazon out for Ina May.

Ok I didn't have an easy labour as such BUT even though I was induced (which I was terrified of), it was shorter than I was expecting, I coped with a tens machine, gas and air and then pethedine right the end and I don't really remember it being painful either. The whole thing seems like a dream and I love my baby and being a mum more than I ever imagined!

I have no fantastical stories of a pain free problem free pregnancy and a brilliantly painless problem free birth, but what i do have is the best thing in the entire world...my son. All you have to do is take each day as it comes and remember you are creating the single most important thing in your entire life . Congratulations and good luck xx

I loved being pregnant! Labour was much easier than I expected!

I had no aches or pains or moans when I was pregnant I just loved every minute if it! Even the morning sickness because to me it was just another yay I'm pregnant moment lol! I went swimming every Tuesday throughout my pregnancy even on my due date! Keep active and ear healthily I say!

My labour was fab! First contraction 6pm got to hospital 10.30pm at 4cm 2am 8cm, 2.30am fully dilated so they broke my waters and after 17 mins of pushing which felt like seconds she arrived! I had one stitch which she she hummed and haaa'd about giving and in the end said I will do it anyway, it will only tighten you up a bit for your hubby

We had difficulty establishing a latch with breastfeeding and she lost 13% of her body weight but were still breastfeeding at 5 months!

I can't wait to do it all again!

Right. I didn't have a pain free birth and I didn't have the perfect birth on paper. I was in labour for 4 days and it ended with an emergency c section. But I'll tell you one thing. No matter how you give birth to a happy healthy baby, it doesn't matter. Who ever gives me a horror story, they can go ahead - beet mine! lol. But I can honestly say looking back the whole experience was special and amazing because it gave me my son. Second time around, not scared in the slightest about labour. Looking forward to having a happy healthy baby to add to my family! xx

You know what I will be honest and say both my labours were painful but they were completely worth every second of it and I would do it a million times over for both of my beautiful boys!
