Thread: **The beastfeeding chat thread**

Hey all boobing question: lo is ill he's keeping down about half of his feeds, sick is a bit yellow, dh thinks I should give him water instead of boobing him. I think that'd make it far worse... Anyone agree?

Mol btw try getting someone else to do the bottle feed - mine won't take a bottle from me but did from a nurse! That was a whole ago but worth a try! Just go out of the room!

Boob is always best I don't think water would help. Remember that sick often looks loads more than it really is! Try tipping a dessert spoon of water down a baby grow - looks loads on the clothes but in reality is a smidgen

The breastmilk will be the best thing for his tummy too xx

I thought so too! Poor little one we are getting thru baby gros and towels like he was a newborn again! He's sleeping like a newborn too.

Do you know how fast bm is digested? I've heard a few times before that as lo g as it stays down for 20 mins or so then they are able to get something from it. Also, if this is a catchable bug and I'm not ill, does this mean I've probably had it before?

I'm so chuffed with myself and her because she was 7 weeks prem and isn't actually due until the 7th of June. The newborn unit were less than encouraging when it came to bf and even told me my milk probably wasn't going to be enough for her! They told me she wouldn't breastfeed properly and I would always have to top her up with at least one bottle of nutri prem a day!

She was 4lb 9 born, went to 4lb 2 and is now 4lb 13, with no formula and is now fully breast fed! The HV and community nicu nurse just can't believe it and keep asking me how I'm feeding? Makes me feel quite smug!
