Thread: 'baby' aspirin??

  1. #1

    Question 'baby' aspirin??

sooo af's here-right on time which I suppose is good so now to start ttc properly
just wondering though about 75mg aspirin that I know some ladies are advised to take after having recurrent mc, since I had two early ones I don't know whether I should start taking it or wait and see what happens without (not that I want it to happen a third time)....are there any ladies taking the aspirin without official doctor's advice?

Personally I'd book an appointment to discuss it with your gp.

I will have to take aspirin (higher dose ) or heparin as I had blood clots, my gp suggested there are risks of mc but I'd have to take them risks if I want to b pg again

Fx u get your sticky bfp soon xxxxx

I would def see you GP before taking Aspirin daily, I'm a nurse and long term use can cause bleeding within the stomach so we would generally advise that you get an additional medication such Omeprazole to reduce the risk of getting a stomach ulcer and give your tummy some protection. Some GP's will give Aspirin without considering the use of Omeprazole but I would be wary about this. Good luck on your BFP.... hope it happens soon.

    thanks ladies!

secretly wishing and k22evans- I will definitely consult my GP first - suppose it's just the fear that it could happen again and wanting to try anything to try and prevent it. Really hoping we all get our sticky bfps!

I was on omeprazole. I thought you couldn't take it if you were ttc? And isn't it to reduce the acid in your stomach?

Omeprazole does reduce the acid in your stomach, this acid is there to break down the food that we eat and aid digestion.. too much acid can cause heartburn and indigestion which eventually can erode the lining of the stomach causing ulcers.. essentially omeprazole protects the lining of your stomach. An effect of Aspirin is the increased risk of ulcers therefore combining Aspirin with Omeprazole will reduce the side effects of taking Aspirin alone.

You can take Omeprazole when you are pregnant, there is no firm evidence it can cause damage during early pregnancy but discuss this with your GP first. If you have a family history of peptic ulcers, heartburn, blood disorders then I would not take Apririn without consulting a medical professional first. I guess some people do and that is their choice.. good luck! xx

    Hiya,

This is something I have thought about because I know several ladies on here who've had lots of success with baby aspirin but definitely talk to your GP because it doesn't agree with everyone. I had a monster period after taking it (so much blood I got quite scared), and also heartburn, and I've been advised to stay away from it by two fertility specialists now! It's interesting what you said about family history K22 because my Dad has a stomach ulcer and a few years back it perforated and he nearly died - you've convinced me that it wouldn't be right for me
