    The "Don't Test Early" Club!

This cycle, I will not be testing until 13DPO I never test in single figures anyway, but have previously tested at 10DPO and 11DPO. This cycle I am only travelling back from holiday on 13DPO which is the day AF is due, so I am taking no tests with me, just Tampax and pantyliners in case la witch decides to be lazy and catch the same plane home instead of her broomstick!

But it got me thinking... I want to start a club of angelic ladies who vow not to test early. By early, I mean not before the day your period is due, or preferably a few days after (especially if you have a short luteal phase). If your cycles are erratic and you're never sure when you are due then fair enough, it can't be helped (well, it can if you start charting, something else I feel strongly about that removes alot of unecassary confusion in TTC! ). But I really feel strongly about this, as from what I can see on our Forum, testing early does nothing but cause confusion, stress and sometimes enormous disappointment if it results in a chemical

I know that some people feel the opposite, just want to know ASAP, and can happily handle the first few negatives before a possible BFP shows up. In which case, this is your choice and good luck to you, what are you reading this for? Go POAS already! But in a study of charts by Fertility Friend, only 10% of ladies who were pregnant got a BFP at 10DPO. Seriously, that figure is tiny! Put it another way: if you *are* pregnant, there is a 90% chance that you'll get a BFN if you test at 10DPO, never mind testing any earlier!!! Or 9 out of 10 of you ladies testing at 10DPO will get a BFN Then you'll post it on here and we'll all squint for an invisible line and say, "aww, test again in a few days etc etc..." because there is nothing else to constructively say

FF also shows that most BFP's do not show before almost 14DPO... and guess what, it's pretty much the day AF is due. Girls, you know it makes sense. I urge you to save yourself the emotional (and financial) costs of testing before your period is due. I just really don't believe it is worth it. :shakehead: Plus of course, your 12 week scan will take *forever* to come around, because you found your BFP soooo early. And as you clearly hate waiting for things, you'll find this really frustrating!!

You can read the full FF study results here, for the more geeky amongst you (like me lol): http://www.fertilityfriend.com/Faqs/..._pregnant.html

Re: The "Don't Test Early" Club!

    well said

I didn't think I'd be pregnant this month, so tested at 4 days post-AF-due-date, and it was BFN. Tested again 9 days post AF-due and got BFP! Now nearly 7 weeks

If I'd been testing every day from 9dpo I'd have gone crazy!!

In Feb, I did have a chemical - and that was still testing after AF was due - it was positive but then started period 4 days late.

Breaks my heart to see all the chemicals that people find out about on here...that they wouldn't have even known about had they now tested. I firmly believe that in most cycles, an egg is fertilized (if you hit the right time) and that this shows up as an early BFP - but only a small proportion of these go on to implant and result in a "proper" pregnancy.

Put the money towards a treat instead

Re: The "Don't Test Early" Club!

I wanna join :-D After my chemical in february I promised myself I wouldn't test early. But that post chemical cycle was so hard, the deperation was unreal. Feel much more relaxed now so I know I casn resist testing.

I feel the same as you about knowing really early just drags the first 12 weeks out even longer. Also I wouldnt actually feel comfortable having a ticker saying 3 weeks!! How nice would it be to get a BFP and be 5 weeks already?

I vow never to test until at least 1 week late! Keep me strong girls

I'm always in for testing at 14DPO or later

Make a list in your OP and ask a mod if this can be a sticky

wish I'd seen this earlier before testing this morning it's a brilliant idea and I'm definitely on board for next cycle if this one is out which I think it probably is. :x

and would love to join, BUT I would be kidding myself if I said I wasn't going to test early I'm already feeling guilty about the one or two sneaky cigs I've had behind DH's back since giving up so I don't think I need another reason to beat myself up!

Good luck ladies, I am in awe!!
